    Shanghai Richina Leather is an innovative China-based but western-oriented producer of high quality leathers.

    The principal activities of the business are:

    • Production of finished bovine shoe leathers for the lifestyle shoe market.
    • Production of finished ovine garment leathers.
    • Production of automotive leather.

    Since opening in 1995 Shanghai Richina Leather has established itself as one of the world's premier producers of finished leathers.

    The company's strong commitment to its customers and its focus on product innovation and development enables it to produce new leathers with fast cycle and delivery times. Using modern development processes implemented by its highly-skilled technical staff, the company has developed specific skills in producing leathers with the consistently high quality look, feel and wear characteristics demanded by the North American and European consumer markets.

    Shanghai Richina Leather has adopted environmentally safe manufacturing practices and operates world-class effluent treatment facilities at its Shanghai operations.

    Shanghai Richina Leather is the Leather business within Richina Industries (RIL) - the Manufacturing and Industries Sector of Richina Pacific Ltd – a Bermuda registered Company listed in New Zealand.

    Currently this business operates within the following legal entities

    • Shanghai Richina Leather Co Ltd [a PRC company] (SRL]
    • and SRL Trading Ltd [a New Zealand managed and controlled HK registered company] (SRLT)
    • Shanghai Leather Co Ltd (SLC)


History

    Shanghai Richina Leather commenced business in 1995 as a 55/45 joint venture between Richina Pacific Limited (then a New Zealand incorporated company listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange) and the Shanghai Leather Company, a state owned enterprise.

    The tannery was initially a producer of wet blue cattle hides but has expanded into production of finished bovine shoe leather, ovine garment leather and more recently upholstery leather. Over the period Richina Pacific has increased its ownership interest, and taken full management control, reducing the Shanghai Leather Company's shareholding to 5%.
